orange and pink and candlelight

orange and pink and candlelight

On days like today, even though everything outside is bursting forth, we are still dealing with only varying shades of gray and varying barometer ratings on rain versus mist versus a general heavy feeling of humidity. SO, I must add some early morning shots still illuminated by only the glow of light, and enjoy the cheer of the happy pink popping off the page!

This is a beautiful couple with a beautiful story. The surprising features of this wedding include: Pheasant feathers, Western Hemlock tree trunks (schlepped out of the Alaskan woods by yours truly, yours truly’s marvelous husband, and yours truly’s greatest friend), and drawer pulls! Yep, drawer pulls. They were the cherry on top for this wedding to all who got close enough to enjoy them. If you look really, really hard, you might be able to see a cameo appearance in Lindsay’s up-close shot. What can I say? I was inspired!

This is a bit of a smattering I put together to show the kind of grounds we got to work within. A typical schedule: 1. hour long yoga. 2. hang out and watch Ariella. 3. Play with flowers. 4. Eat organic lunch served by a cute guy. 5. Play with more flowers. Clearly this was a rough routine to get into.

next project: the bouquet

We had the afternoon to make our own bouquets. There were a few different color palettes to choose from, but for some reason I went for the most unusual of combinations. Partially to challenge my eye, and partially to prove that almost always, flowers go together, no matter what.* *This is not always true, but for the most part, incredible combos come together when you’re willing to step outside of your box. Let this prove to be a happy example.

Our first day in the tropical paradise was met with an hour long yoga class, held in the ruins of a sugar cane mill, which was then brought back to life with found French architecture.  The sun was out, the birds were chirping, the dew was lifting, and the flowers were singing! After the yoga class and the initial ephemera of such breath-taking flowers, we watched Ariella do her magic and heard a bit of her story.  At the end she let us loose and we got to create our own.

I’m happy to say that I had her full approval and here is the final product of my work:
